The inaugural Comodoro Ultra Trail –- Desafío Rocas Coloradas took place on February 19, drawing over 400 runners to experience the stunning natural beauty of Patagonia. Organized by the TMX team in collaboration with Ente Comodoro Turismo, this new mountain race offered distances of 5k, 10k, 21k, 42k, and a challenging 80k. The event featured elite runners like Sofi Cantilo, Lali Moratorio, and Israel Escudero, all of whom braved the harsh Patagonian weather and rugged terrain.
A Race Through Patagonia’s Untouched Beauty
The race unfolded in the Rocas Coloradas Natural Protected Area, a striking terracotta landscape blending the Patagonian steppe and the Argentine Sea. With its unique geological formations, including Salamanca Peak and the Red Lagoon, this area is a haven of coastal vegetation, fauna, and archaeological significance. Participants were treated to breathtaking views of the turquoise sea and the island of La Tómbola, adding an unforgettable backdrop to the event.
Each race distance began with different visual experiences — runners encountered everything from the quiet beauty of the night to the brilliant sunrise and the full light of day. The variety of terrain made the event ideal for both seasoned trail runners and those new to the sport.
A Carnival Weekend of Sport and Entertainment
Comodoro Ultra Trail coincided with Comodoro’s carnival celebrations, adding even more excitement to the weekend. Runners and spectators enjoyed live music from performers such as Nahuel Pennisi, La Sole, María Becerra, Rombai, and Los Palmeras, creating a festive atmosphere.
